Domestic violence affects the victims, families, coworkers, and community. It's causes diminished psychological and physical health, decreases the quality of life, and results in a decreased productivity.
In addition to the immediate trauma causes by abuse, domestic violence contributes to a number of chronic health problems, including depression, alcohol and substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and often limits the ability of women to manage other chronic illnesses. This creates a public health issue resulting in more domestic violence situations without managed treatment.
In 2022, The New York Times reported that Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crimes annually in the United States. More than 1 in 3 woman and 1 in 4 men have experienced either physical violence, rape, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Between 2015 and 2019, domestic violence and operational costs have more than doubled by 4.0 billion, followed by the rest of the community and society at $1.2 billion and the federal government at $858 million. Our economy is suffering due to big spending on our victims.
